Leather Industry

Lard oils and Neatsfoot oils are used extensively in the Leather industry to impart many characteristics to the leather including suppleness and waterproofing. The oils penetrate the leather and improve fibre cohesion.

The oils can be used in their neat form or emulsified into an aqueous emulsion (large oil droplets) or by sulphonation/sulphation to produce an anionic emulsifier and a much finer (smaller oil droplets) emulsion. These products are classed as Fat Liquors.
